'Key Facts about Obesity'
The number of people with obesity keeps rising worldwide. Our nation is getting bigger and sicker, year on year. We believe that far more can be done to help reduce the numbers of people who are overweight and obese.
In 2014, 1 in 4 men and women in the UK were classed as obese. Over half of the nations' adult population now has a BMI over 25. A healthy BMI is within a 18.5 to <25kg/m2 range.
Sadly, the 2014/2015 statistics for children are equally bad.
One in five is overweight or obese (boys 22.6%, girls 21.2%) and around one in ten is obese (boys 9.5%, girls 8.7%)
One in three children is overweight or obese (boys 34.9%, girls 31.5%)
Around one in five children is obese (boys 20.7%, girls 17.4%)
The UK now ranks 5th for obesity prevalence among men (24.5%) and 10th for women (25.4%), out of the 34 OECD countries.
